Glyndon Cancels Train Garden; Opens Up November-December Rentals

The Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department’s hall is now available to be rented by the public for events year-round, including November, December and January, months the hall has been unavailable in years past due to the annual train garden. Following a recent restructuring, the individual who was primarily responsible for the design and construction of the train garden will be unable to recreate it this year, rendering the rental hall available for use by the community. For information regarding our rental hall, please call (410) 833-1262.

Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.  The event will be free, but donations will be gladly accepted.  If you are interested in sponsoring Breakfast with Santa, wreaths can be purchased and displayed in the rental hall for $100.  For information regarding Breakfast with Santa or purchasing wreaths, please contact Jake Larkins at (443) 974-1665.

Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department is hopeful that Breakfast with Santa and the hall’s rental sales during the holiday season will surpass the revenue typically generated by the train garden, as these funds are needed to help defray the cost of new equipment, tools and gear, as well as the day-to-day operating expenses of the firehouse.

Christmas Trees sales will begin on Friday, November 25, 2016.

For information on upcoming events, “like” Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department on Facebook and keep an eye on our web page:  As always, Glyndon Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank Glyndon and the surrounding communities for their continued support.

Richard “Pop” Stem Sr.

It with honor and deep sadness that the officers and members announce the passing of Richard “POP” Stem Sr. This afternoon “POP” passed away surrounded by family. Mr. Stem joined the Glyndon Volunteer fire department March 11 1946. He held just about every elected position in the department over his astounding 70 years of active service including President and Captain more notable Pop was the Treasurer for 20 years. Because of him being financially responsible Mr. Stem is the reason why we have many of the things we have today. A great debt of gratitude is owed to the entire Stem family for the sacrifices that they made over the past 70 years of Active service to the GVFD, as well as the Baltimore County Volunteer Firemen’s Association where he served on many committees.
